Nestled in the historic Castle Quarter of central Cambridge, just a hop, skip and a jump from the Quayside and Jesus Green, the Museum is Cambridge is the perfect location for your next event, workshop, away day or gathering.
This is no grey conference room just off the A14. Set within our 400-year-old Grade II-listed former inn, our event space is chock-full of local character and historic atmosphere. And don’t worry – our building may be centuries old, but we’ve got all the modern facilities you need to make your special event, well, special.
Not only that, but by hiring our space you’ll be investing back into your local, independent museum. Your support means we can keep on connecting communities through objects, memories and conversations.
Facilities
The Enid Porter Room is a flexible function room perfect for your next event, workshop, class or away day.
The room is is kitted out with all the resources you’ll need to make your event a success. Your booking with include access to:
- Our excellent wifi.
- Our toasty-warm underfloor heating.
- A projector and laptop (you’ll need to bring your own presentation on a USB stick). Or, you can download an app to access our projector via your own laptop.
- A small whiteboard and pens.
- Seating for up to 30, or tables and chair combinations for up to 20. We also have comfy cushions for sitting on the floor!
- Outdoor space in our courtyard.
- High quality glasses, mugs, plates, platters and cutlery, and a hot water urn.
- A selection of teas, instant coffee, squash, biscuits and oat and cow’s milk.
We also have an accessible toilet, baby-change facilities and a range of period products available for all to use.
We do not provide catering, but you are free to arrange your own. We recommend the wonderful locally-owned café Bridges, which is only a 5 minute walk away from our site.
We don’t have an alcohol licence. If your booking will involve the sale of alcohol, you’ll need to apply for a Temporary Event Notice from Cambridge City Council. It’s a very simple process, and we’d be happy to chat to you about it once you’ve made your booking.
Getting Here
The Museum is easily accessible by foot, only 3 minutes’ walk from Cambridge’s quayside and 10 minutes’ from King’s Parade. There is ample cycle parking on nearby Northampton Street, and The Madingley Road Park and Ride is just a short bus ride away.
Accessibility
We’re delighted to welcome everyone to the Museum of Cambridge, whatever their access needs. We’re happy to chat with you about our unusual site and its suitability for your needs, and we’ll do everything we can to make your event as accessible as possible. The courtyard and Enid Porter Room are accessible to wheelchair users with small wheelchairs. We have an accessible toilet onsite.
Pricing
£45 per hour indicative rate (see note below)
Half day (3.5 Hours): £120 Full day (7 Hours): £250 We also offer a Community Rate for registered charities and small businesses with fewer than 5 employees, starting at £25/Hour. Do get in touch for more details.
Note: The indicative rate above, provided by the venue, is designed to allow you to estimate the total cost of hiring a space. A number of other factors may influence the final cost and this should be agreed, in writing, between you and the venue prior to a booking being confirmed.
Location
Access
Monday-Sunday, 10AM-5PM. We’re also happy to make out of hours bookings – including through the night (ghost tour, anyone?!) just drop us an email or give us a ring, and we can usually accommodate your request.
